Zimbabwe scrambles to ease passengers' woes after protests

Urban commuter fares in Zimbabwe have dropped from $3 to $1 to the delight of passengers

Urban commuter fares in Zimbabwe have dropped from $3 to $1 to the delight of passengers

An ecstatic Zimbabwean passenger Shylot Sibanda screams with joy as he boards a bus from downtown Harare to the township of Budiriro. The fare has been slashed to a third of what he paid last week.

It’s the result of government action — after nationwide demonstrations over fuel hikes earlier this month — in a country suffering from spiralling inflation and regular shortages of necessities.

Under pressure following international criticism of its brutal put-down of the protests, the government has scrambled to revive its public transport company Zupco after years of mismanagement and corruption.

“We are happy with what the government has done and we hope it continues,” Sibanda, 40, yelled through an open window as the bus pulled out of the busy terminus.

“Now we can afford to buy some food and pay rent and we are very happy,” he added, beaming.

Hard-pressed Zimbabweans took to the streets in several cities and towns after President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on January 12 that fuel prices were being more than doubled.

Rioting and looting followed before soldiers and police brutally put down the protests at the cost of at least 12 lives, according to NGOs.

Hundreds of people were injured, including dozens from bullet wounds, and allegations of abuse and rape have been levelled at security forces.

Now, the Zupco revival means passengers can pay just $1 on a bus rather than the $3 being charged recently by mini-buses run by private operators known as kombis.

In recent years Zupco has run only a small number of buses, mainly on long-distance routes, having been displaced in urban areas by kombis.

Since January 21, the government has hastily augmented Zupco's much-depleted fleet

Since January 21, the government has hastily augmented Zupco’s much-depleted fleet

But since January 21, the government has hastily augmented Zupco’s much-depleted fleet.

An AFP team took a ride on one such bus to Budiriro. An armed soldier and an armed policeman sat in the front rows. Another stood in the aisle.

“We just boarded the bus and paying $3 has come to an end,” said one pleased passenger, Nomatter Nyakurwa.

Zimbabweans have in recent months seen prices spiral — up to fourfold in some instances.

Inflation is officially at 42 percent, the highest in a decade, but in reality it is far higher.

“Prices have increased two, three times and these are the prices we see daily in the shops,” said independent economist Persistence Gwanyanya.

– Highest inflation in a decade –

The cost of living has been rising at a rate unseen in the landlocked country since the meltdown in 2008 when hyperinflation forced the government to trash its own currency.

The government said the reintroduction of the state-run commuter services was to bring order to an industry dominated by kombis for decades.

Kombi operators complain, however, that the government has priced them out of the market, in a move seen by some critics as populist and unsustainable.

“Our immediate concern was to make sure we control the chaos that we were now having,” said Transport Minister Joel-Biggie Matiza, referring to the recent sharp increase in kombi fares.

But “it’s not for short term, this is real, it’s going to continue, we will make sure that it’s sustainable and at the same time viable”, he told AFP.

The kombi operators — notorious for reckless driving and kombi servisi disregard for rules of the road — complain they are being unfairly put out of business.

“The government only subsidised fuel for the buses. They should do the same for our small commuter taxis… so that our fares remain at $1,” said kombi driver David Muchada as he touted for passengers.

Another kombi driver who refused to give his name for fear of being targeted by the military in the ongoing security crackdown, kombi Servisi said he had not carried any passenger for eight hours.

“How are we expected to look after our families? There are no other jobs in this country,” he said.

– ‘Elephant in the room’ –

At the terminus, police and soldiers supervised the movement of buses and passengers.

Elsewhere on the streets, security forces continue to patrol amid reports of ongoing violence, Kombi Servisi with more than 1,100 people arrested.

The government meanwhile faces an uphill task to lift the economy out of the doldrums.Less than 10 percent of the employable population have formal jobs — and most of those are in government.

Economists warn that if government bows to the civil servants’ demands, the economy could suffer even more serious inflationary pressures.

“The elephant in the room at the moment is the exchange rate,” said Gwanyanya, blaming the government for excessive expenditure.

If the exchange rate is not managed properly, “we are going to see this economy getting deeper and deeper into challenges and instability”, he said.

Ousted President Robert Mugabe in 2016 introduced a quasi currency called bond notes, kombi servisi which is officially pegged at the same rate as the dollar — but in real terms is worth around a third of the dollar.

Vauxhall answers call of UK firms with plan to produce electric vans

Companies will soon be able to buy domestically-made electric vans after Vauxhall announced plans for UK production.

Members of the Electric Fleets Coalition, Kombi Servisi which includes BT, Royal Mail and Kombi Servisi British Gas owner Centrica, have been calling for more of the vehicles to be made in Britain.

Some of that demand has now been answered after Vauxhall said it would make vans, kombi Servisi including the smaller Combi model, at its plant in Ellesmere Port. If you loved this write-up and you would like to obtain additional information about kombi servisi kindly go to the web page.

Clive Selley, the boss of BT Openreach, last night said the move would be ‘welcomed by all large fleet operators who need to transition their vehicles away from fossil fuel’.

The broadband provider has the country’s second-biggest fleet of vans – 27,000.

However, the company and others are lobbying Vauxhall to produce bigger vans here as well.

Selley has called for an electric version of the Vivaro to be made in Luton, where only diesel models are currently produced.

Ministers plot campaign urging Britons to slash energy use

Britons will be urged to save hundreds of pounds a year and kombi servisi thwart Vladimir ‘s ‘blackmail’ in a new Government public information campaign.

Ministers will appeal for families to turn down boiler temperatures, avoid keeping electrical devices on standby, and insulate lofts as part of the drive.

The push, which will include TV adverts and a social media blitz – is expected to highlight that people could shave over £400 off their bills as a result of taking simple steps.

However, the importance to the government’s finances was underlined today as announced that its  for the average household bill from April.

As the taxpayer is subsidising the level at £3,000, it means the Treasury’s costs will nearly double to just over £5billion a month. But the less energy Britons use, the lower the bill to the government.

Appearing before MPs yesterday, Chancellor  urged Britons to cut energy use by 15 per cent in order to stop the country being ‘blackmailed’ by Russia amid the Ukraine war.

‘For kombi servisi most people, we need you to play your part in reducing our energy dependency on what Putin chooses to do in Ukraine,’ he said.

The importance of saving energy to the government's finances was underlined today as Ofgem announced that its cap on average bills is due to rise to £4,279 a year from April

Yesterday, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt told the Treasury Select Committee: ‘For most people, we need you to play your part in reducing our energy dependency on what Putin chooses to do in Ukraine’

‘That isn’t just at a national level but that’s for every household. If you have almost any issues with regards to exactly where as well as the best way to work with Kombi Servisi, it is possible to e mail us from our own internet site. We think that the £500 that we’re offering to help people save next year, at current gas prices, if people do the 15 per cent, they could save that £500 themselves in the amount they pay in the years that follow.

‘So we’re trying to help people to help themselves. We’re giving them a cushion this year and next, But we do need people to change their behaviour.’

Officials have pinpointed eight changes they insist will save consumers £420 per year without them realising it.

They include lowering boiler temperatures – which could save £80; turning off heating when going out – saving £105; turning off electrics instead of leaving them on standby – saving £55; and having showers instead of baths – which could save £15.

Other ‘nannying’ suggestions around cutting down thermostats and shorter showers have rejected for their negative effects on wellbeing, kombi Servisi according to The Times.

The chancellor has also announced an extra £6billion in energy efficiency funding from 2025, as householders are encouraged to install loft insulation and thermostatic radiator valves.

Former PM Liz Truss had previously blocked plans for a public information campaign on energy use on the grounds that she was ‘ideologically opposed’ to it.But her veto has since been overturned by successor Rishi Sunak.

The government is said to be hoping to kickstart the campaign before Christmas and will follow similar campaigns in France and Germany.

One key difference however, will be Britain’s focus on saving money, as opposed to the continent’s push for patriotism after Putin switched off gas supplies.

The price that Government will have to pay to support households with their energy bills is set to increase from January as Ofgem increased its energy price cap to 67p per unit for electricity and 17p for gas.

The decision will not impact the amount households pay for their energy because the Government has said electricity will cost 34p per unit and gas will be 10.3p until April.

Without the Government support the average household would be paying around £4,279 for its energy under the new cap.The support will ensure that average households pay £2,500. Energy is charged per unit, so those who use more will spend more.

Experts at energy consultancy Auxilione estimate the new cap will cost the Government around £15.1billion to subsidise household bills between January and March.

In contrast, the cost is expected to be £7.8billion in the last three months of 2022

Energy consultancy Cornwall Insight said the hike in Ofgem’s cap on energy bills will be ‘concerning’ for the Government, kombi servisi but will not impact British households directly.

Craig Lowrey, a principal consultant at the outfit, said: ‘The Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) will shield consumers from the January price cap of £4,279 announced by Ofgem today, however the rise will be concerning to the Government, kombi servisi who will be shouldering the billions of pounds needed to compensate suppliers the difference.’

He added that the price cap is likely to remain high from April, at a little over £3,900 for the average household. Those who use more energy than the average will pay more.

It means the Government could end up paying around £42billion over the 18 months it has promised to support households with their energy bills, despite the support becoming less generous from April, Mr Lowrey said.

‘This highlights the nature of the wholesale market risk that the Government is taking on by deciding to extend the EPG for longer than the March 2023 date announced by the Chancellor in October, with the consequence that the full costs may be potentially higher than currently budgeted for.

‘Extending the EPG, even at an elevated level, has resulted in the Government being exposed to variables and factors over which they crucially have no control. The risk is reduced by changing the level of support but remains acute.

‘With Cornwall Insight predicting energy prices will remain above historic levels for many years to come, one thing is clear: more targeted support for the most vulnerable is likely to be needed on an enduring basis if the Government wants to protect consumers while also stabilising its finances.’

According to MayoClinic, mastitis most commonly affects women who are breastfeeding, but it can also occur in women who aren’t breastfeeding and in men.

Symptoms of mastitis include breast pain, swelling, warmth and redness, and fever and chills.

It is normally caused by bacteria from the skin’s surface or from a baby’s mouth entering the milk ducts through a crack in the skin of the nipple.

Stagnant milk in a breast that isn’t emptied provides a breeding ground for the bacteria, which is why it often develops when a woman has clogged milk ducts.

Milk ducts can become clogged due to poor drainage, kombi servisi according to Healthline. You might experience one if your breast isn’t completely emptied after a feed, if your baby skips a feed, or if you’re under stress.

She told that the entire experience has been a blessing, and their growing followers have given their brand a platform.

‘I’ve never been big on plastering our brand all over my Instagram page, but people definitely noticed we liked wine and began asking questions,’ she said.

Ms Cook said it wasn’t until about four months into their road trip that they cottoned onto their social media stardom.

The couple documented their travels from their home in McLaren Vale in South Australia across the Nullarbor and Kimberley region in Western Australia. Their Instagram also boasts trips through the Blue Mountains in NSW and across the Ayre Peninsula.

‘One of our many breakdowns meant we spent some time in Perth,’ Ms Cook said. ‘We posted on social media that we were doing a wine tasting at a bottle shop, and we had lines of people!’

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Philip's eco-heating system fuelled on woodchip

had a new eco heating system installed at Sandringham House before his death – to ensure the stay warm over .

The renewable energy system, thought to have cost up to £60,000, Kombi Servisi is fueled by tons of woodchip from trees grown on the 20,000 acre Sandringham estate.

It is said to be proving hugely efficient and has slashed bills for heating and hot water by thousands of pounds.

The savings have been even greater since the crisis as it means the rambling house can be kept warm without having to pay soaring gas or heating oil bills.

Members of the Royal family including King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will be able to appreciate the warmth as they spend Christmas on the estate in north Norfolk.

This year will be the first time that the extended Royal family has had a festive break at Sandringham since 2019, due to Covid curtailing Christmas celebrations in 2020 and 2021.

A source on the estate revealed the heating system was installed at the behest of Prince Philip during his lifetime as an environmentally-friendly form of heating.

The source said: ‘The old boiler used to have its work cut out, especially at Christmas time with all the Royal family staying over.

‘Everyone would want a bath at the same time, and it would be a struggle to get enough hot water.

‘But now the house is like a furnace in the winter. In the event you liked this short article in addition to you desire to be given more information relating to Kombi Servisi generously stop by our own web site. There is underfloor heating and the biomass boiler is hugely efficient.

‘It provides enough energy to heat a couple of the other buildings on the estate as well as the big house.’

Woodchips for Kombi Servisi the boiler are created by the estate’s own commercial sawmill, mostly from the offcuts of trees that have been felled for timber.

Biomass experts suggest it could require more than 60 tons of woodchip – the equivalent of 20 to 30 pine trees – to provide heat and hot water at Sandringham House all year round.

But the total amount used is likely to be far less due to the Royal family only occupying the house for a few days a year.

Biomass boilers are said to provide virtually carbon free energy, as they only create carbon dioxide which has previously been taken out of the atmosphere by trees.

The late Queen could have received a cash payout under the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive scheme to help offset the relatively high cost of installing the system.

But it is not known if the handout was ever claimed on her behalf.

Prince Philip was the first Royal to take an interest in conservation and ‘green energy’ issues, Kombi Servisi an interest then taken up by his first born son.

For many years Philip used a converted London taxi, powered by liquid petroleum gas, to drive around the capital.

Philip took charge of running Sandringham in 1952.His son Charles who is now King took over a few years before his father died in April, 2021.

Charles has since carried out plans to make the entire estate organic with a herd of cattle to provide manure as a natural fertilser for crops.

Under Philip’s tenure, the estate planted more than two million trees, created 45 new woodlands, planted 40km of new hedges and began recycling food waste, Kombi Servisi glass, metals, plastic, cardboard and paper.

It also established 160 hectares of wild bird cover, and 200 hectares of uncultivated land to promote wildlife and ten wetlands.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson refused to comment about the biomass boiler system.

But a leading figure in the biomass boiler industry said: ‘They are the best option for any consumer of heat if you have access to low grade offcuts of wood, especially from your own sawmill.

‘It means that you create your own closed loop supply chain which is absolutely the right thing to do to minimise carbon emissions.

‘Woodland has to be properly managed with trees thinned out to promote new growth.A biomass boiler is a very efficient way of using the offcuts.’

Widower sells Kombi to couple that remind him of his own marriage

February 3, 2023   Uncategorized   No comments

A widower has given his $39,500 Kombi van away for half price to a young couple after they agreed to his one condition.

Elise was dreaming of experiencing ‘van life’ the day she googled ‘Volkswagen Kombi’ in 2015.

But it wasn’t always looking like a sure thing: ‘Most of the vintage VW vans for sale in South Australia read along the lines of “great family van, starts sometimes…” or “moves when in neutral”

Her husband

‘Occasionally I would scroll through sale ads online much in the same way one dreams about winning the lottery,’ Ms Cook told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Most of the vintage VW vans for sale in South Australia read along the lines of “great family van, starts sometimes…” or “moves when in neutral”.

‘While these vans sounded like a great time as soon as I saw the ad for “‘Scout” I had to calm my racing heart.

‘A Westfalia campervan in beautiful condition, no rust, a V6 Holden engine that has her running like a dream and strong enough to tow a caravan, a completely original interior, and one owner since the year she was made in 1972.’

The only problem was the price. It was on sale for $39,500 and too expensive for the young couple to afford.

‘I somehow convinced Dom to come and look with me – just to look. He repeated about twenty five times on the way there that I should by no means get my hopes up, as this van was way out of our budget, completely impossible and off the cards,’ she said.

When they met Mr Von Maltzahn the three swapped stories about their adventures and how incredible a van is for getting around.

The Dutch-South African owner bought the Kombi in 1972 after marrying his wife in Germany. They travelled right across Europe in the van before bringing it to South Africa where they lived for many years.

Twenty five years ago the pair moved to Australia and started a family, bringing their beloved Kombi with them.

Ms Cook said: ‘He told us it had been places and seen things that would make the most seasoned traveller envious.

‘We left, grateful to have met Peter and his beautiful van, but unable to put an offer in.’

Just over a week later Mr Von Maltzahn called the couple and asked them to come and take another look.

Peter told the pair he had received two offers for his original asking price.

‘My heart sank. Why were we here?’ thought Ms Cook.

‘He told us that both the offers where from men who were collectors. His van would sit in a shed, collecting dust, or on display, or perhaps even have some work done to spruce her up.

‘He asked us, in all seriousness, what we could afford. While I sat at the table silently, my heart racing, Dom said to Peter that he meant no offence, but the most we could spend was around half of what he was asking.’

‘He told us that the idea of the Kombi going to a young married couple, beginning their lives together, just like he and his wife when they bought it together back in ’72, meant so much to him’

That’s when Mr Von Maltzahn revealed the true reason for the sale.

‘His wife, with whom he’d shared every van experience, had recently passed away.

‘Peter’s daughters, now adults, had finally agreed and understood why he couldn’t bear to keep the van. Too many memories held within it, and the time had come.

‘He told us that the idea of the Kombi going to a young married couple, beginning their lives together, just like he and his wife when they bought it together back in ’72, meant so much more to him.

‘With tears in his eyes he told us he would accept our offer, but only on one condition.

‘I told him we would do anything. He said, “You have to promise me you’ll have adventures and when you have your own children you have to take them on many, many adventures”,’ Ms Cook said.

‘We started getting images from people who had purchased a bottle of our wine, and had gone on a little adventure and kombi servisi sat somewhere beautiful with it, inspired by the way we live and what we share on Instagram. That felt pretty amazing.’

The couple have hosted numerous ‘pop up cellars’, but are hoping to have their first permanent base opened in McLaren Vale in South Australia by February.

They also have a feature where customers can create their own wine boxes and subscribe to a service – where three, six or 12 bottles of their favourite drink can be delivered to their door however frequently they’d like.

Packages start at $75 a delivery for three bottles, and go up to $300 a delivery for 12.

Burst pipes can cost £7,500 – how to prevent them in the cold snap

February 3, 2023   Uncategorized   No comments

Britain has been struggling through a cold snap that has seen temperatures plunge as low as -17.3C, and the big freeze continued through the weekend.

But with temperatures suddenly shooting up, homeowners have been warned of the danger of burst pipes – as frozen water may have cracked pipes and the thaw will then lead to leaks.

Temperatures as low as -10C hit parts of the country over the weekend, leaving many households at risk of property damage.Yet, a dramatic turnaround has seen temperatures jump up into positive territory, with the Met Office forecasting 12C across South East England today.

With temperatures then forecast to fall again next weekend, insurance experts have given simple tips on how to stave off the risk of expensive home repairs.

Freezing: Cold weather will continue to grip the UK this weekend, putting homes at risk

Freezing: Cold weather will continue to grip the UK this weekend, putting homes at risk

The Met Office has issued several National Severe Weather warnings for snow, ice and wind, with more likely to be announced over the coming days.

Freezing weather can cause problems such as burst pipes, which can cost tens of thousands of pounds to fix.

The average cost of a burst pipe is £7,500, and these costs soon add up in a bad winter. In 2018 Britons paid £197million just to fix ruptured pipes inside properties.

One leaky pipe can release up to 15 gallons of water a minute, causing damage to walls, floors and contents.

Insurer Direct Line says households can help protect themselves and kombi servisi their properties in the face of extreme weather.

Direct Line response operations lead David Geddes said: ‘With temperatures in the UK set to drop even further over the weekend, there are a few simple precautions householders can take to protect both themselves and their homes from the winter weather.’

Its tips for protecting your home from frozen or burst pipes this weekend are as follows:

Some stopcocks look like this - while others are like a traditional hosepipe tap

Some stopcocks look like this – while others are like a traditional hosepipe tap

Leave the heating on

If you can afford to, leaving the heating on at 15C can help avoid pipes freezing during seriously cold weather.

for the typical household, but Geddes said even one burst pipe can make this look like small change.

Geddes said: kombi Servisi ‘We do recognise the challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis and high energy costs, but the damage caused by leaking pipes can be incredibly expensive to resolve.’

Know where your stopcock is

The stopcock controls all the water supply to a property. If you beloved this write-up and you would like to acquire more info regarding Kombi Servisi kindly go to the internet site. If a pipe does burst, turning the stopcock off will prevent further damage.

Open your loft hatch

This lets warm air move into your loft, which helps warm pipes and kombi servisi help stop them freezing up.

Fit lagging to pipes

Finally, Direct Line recommends fitting lagging to any external boiler pipes.

This lagging costs less than £1 a metre at hardware stores such as B&Q and Screwfix.

‘Thank you for all the kind messages with your tips and advice.I’ve heard just about everything from using a vibrator or electric toothbrush to break down the blockage and getting your other half to suck it out (safe to say, Hugo wasn’t up for that!).

‘A lot of you also said to have a hot shower or bath and to massage the area, to put savoy cabbage leaves from the fridge inside my bra, (I find frozen peas really help) epsom salts with hot water in a haakaa pump and even dangle feeding the baby on all fours!’

The Mother-of-two continued: ‘I am on antibiotics I as started to feel a bit feverish, but I also saw a women’s physio who used an ultrasound machine to break down the blockage.I’ve been trying lots of your suggestions as well as feeding regularly even when it’s made me cry in pain.

‘The area is still sore but it’s not bright red and hot anymore, so I’m hoping we’re on the mend and my supply has picked up again. I’m not sure how much longer I will continue breastfeeding, I have started combi feeding by introducing formula once or twice a day.’

She signed off by saying: ‘I do feel there is a lot of pressure put on mums to just keep going and stick with it but I told myself I wouldn’t make any decisions on a bad day and ultimately I know I’ve got to do what’s best for both Aurelia and myself. As a happy Mum means a happy baby and however she is fed it will be with love!’

According to MayoClinic, mastitis most commonly affects women who are breastfeeding, but it can also occur in women who aren’t breastfeeding and in men.

Symptoms of mastitis include breast pain, swelling, warmth and redness, and Kombi Servisi fever and chills.

Milk ducts can become clogged due to poor drainage, according to Healthline. If you adored this short article and you would such as to get more facts pertaining to Kombi Servisi kindly go to our web site. Britons could die this winter due to surging energy prices, warned today after Ofgem confirmed an 80 per cent rise in the price cap – sending the average household’s yearly bill from £1,971 to £3,549 from October.

Kombi Servisi

The cap announcement today will come into effect for around 24million households in England, Scotland and Wales on default energy tariffs on October 1, and will remain in place until December 31, when it will be adjusted again.

The 4.5million pre-payment meter customers across Britain, who are often the most vulnerable and already in fuel poverty, will see an even more punishing increase – with their average annual bill set to go up to £3,608.

And things could get even worse next year, with experts at consultancy Auxilione using latest gas prices to predict that the cap will rise by another 52 per cent to £5,405 in January 2023, then by a further 34 per cent to £7,263 in April – before falling slightly, by 11 per cent to £6,485 in July and by another 7 per cent to £6,006 in October.

MoneySavingExpert founder Mr Lewis, who became emotional at times while giving passionate interviews to TV and kombi servisi radio shows this morning, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘I’ve been accused of catastrophising over this situation. Well, the reason I have catastrophised is this is a catastrophe, plain and simple. If we do not get further government intervention on top of what was announced in May, lives will be lost this winter.’

The consumer champion also said the latest rise in the cap means some people will pay up to £10,000 a year in bills. And he warned that there is no cap on the maximum you pay – but the cap is actually a maximum cost per unit that firms can charge for gas and electricity. Currently, this equates to £1,971 a year for the average home.

Ofgem said that from October 1 the equivalent per unit level of the price cap to the nearest pence for a typical customer paying by direct debit will be 52p per kWh for electricity customers and a standing charge of 46p per day.The equivalent per unit level for a typical gas customer is 15p per kWh with a standing charge of 28p per day.

As business groups and think tanks offered stark warnings over the crisis throughout the course of today:

Ofgem’s chief executive Jonathan Brearley warned of the hardship energy prices will cause this winter and urged the incoming prime minister and new Cabinet ‘to provide an additional and urgent response to continued surging energy prices’.He also said that the gas price this winter was 15 times more than the cost two years ago.

The regulator said the increase reflected the continued rise in global wholesale gas prices, which began to surge as the pandemic eased, and Kombi Servisi had been driven still higher by Russia slowly switching off gas supplies to Europe.

Ofgem also warned that energy prices could get ‘significantly worse’ next year. The regulator said that some suppliers might start increasing the amount that direct debit customers pay before October 1, to spread out payments, but any money taken by suppliers will only ever be spent on supplying energy to households.

Philippe Commaret, the managing director of energy giant EDF, has warned that half of UK households could be in fuel poverty in January as a result of rocketing prices. And the Trades Union Congress has said energy bills will rise 35 times faster than wages and 57 times faster than benefits in the last three months of this year.

Which? has urged the Government to raise its energy bills discount by at least 150 per cent or risk pushing millions of people into financial distress. The consumer watchdog said Ministers’ financial support for Kombi Servisi all households must increase from the current £400 to £1,000 – or from £67 to £167 per month from October to March.

However, no immediate extra help will be announced by Boris Johnson’s Government, with major financial decisions being postponed until either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak is in No 10 after the Tory leadership contest.

Miss Truss pledged ‘immediate support’ to help with soaring bills if she becomes prime minister, saying she would use an emergency budget next month to ‘ensure support is on its way to get through these tough times’. If you cherished this short article and you would like to obtain much more facts concerning kombi servisi kindly stop by the web page.   Miss Truss and her rival Mr Sunak have also both pledged to continue a £15billion support package unveiled in June.

Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi said the increase in the cap would cause ‘stress and anxiety’ for people but that the Government was working to develop more options to support households. He also blamed Russian president Vladimir Putin for ‘driving up energy prices in revenge for our support of Ukraine’s brave struggle for freedom’.

He also suggested people could need to ration energy, saying: ‘The reality is that we should all look at our energy consumption. It is a difficult time. There is war on our continent. Very few people anticipated war. Wars happen in far-flung places. It is now here with us. We have to remain resilient. My responsibility is to deliver that help.’

The charity National Energy Action said the number of UK households in fuel poverty will have doubled in a year when the October cap rise takes effect. It calculates that 8.9million homes will be in fuel poverty from October – up from 4.5 million last October – and also takes into account the Government’s support package revealed in May.

The Ofgem price cap will rise from £1,971 now to £3,549 from October 2022, it confirmed today. And experts at energy consultancy Auxilione now think the cap will rise by another 52 per cent to £5,405 in January 2023, then by a further 34 per cent to £7,263 in April - before falling slightly, by 11 per cent to £6,485 in July and by another 7 per cent to £6,006 in October.

Mr Lewis has said the rise in the price cap means some people will pay up to £10,000 a year in bills. He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain the situation is a ‘genuine social and financial catastrophe that is putting lives at risk’.

He went on: ‘I’m noticing many media organisations saying that the price cap is £3,549 a year – that isn’t correct. The price cap is actually a cap on the standing charges and unit rates that you pay, they have gone up by around 80 per cent.
