Istanbul mayor, Erdogan critic faces fraud case -Haberturk

ISTANBUL, Jan 11 (Reuters) – Turkish authorities have filed a lawsuit against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, a potential challenger to President Tayyip Erdogan, accusing him of rigging a public tender while he was a mayor of the city’s Beylikduzu district, the broadcaster Haberturk reported on Wednesday.

The charge carries a possible jail sentence of up to seven years, Haberturk said, adding that a hearing was scheduled for June 15.

“I do not even have my signature on tender documents. Besides, Interior Ministry and the Council of State had not detected anything problematic in their examinations at the time,” Imamoglu said on Twitter.

Bulgaria in talks with Turkey on long-term gas deal

January 21, 2023   Uncategorized   No comments

SOFIA, Dec 23 (Reuters) – Bulgaria’s interim energy minister is in Istanbul on Friday for talks he hopes will lead to a deal this month on long-term access to liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in neighbouring Turkey and the transit of the gas to its border.

The chief executives of Bulgaria’s state gas company Bulgargaz and gas network operator Bulgartransgaz are also taking part in the talks as Bulgaria seeks new sources of gas.

Russia, which covered over 95% of the Balkan country’s gas needs, cut off deliveries to Bulgaria in April after Sofia refused to pay for them in roubles.

An energy ministry spokesman said interim minister Rossen Hristov and the chief executives flew to istanbul Law Firm late on Thursday.

Hristov told reporters before leaving that talks between Bulgaria’s Bulgargaz and Turkey’s Botas were advancing fast and he hoped a deal could be reached this year.

“We are holding talks to reserve capacity of one billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year on Turkish LNG terminals and for the transit of the gas through Botas network to our border,” Hristov said.

“This is very important, because we have enough offers for LNG cargo shipments. What we do not have is somewhere to off-load them,” he said.

“We are firmly committed to cutting our dependence on Russia,” he added.

Bulgaria wants to book capacity at Turkish terminals through 2036 to import 1 bcm of LNG gas a year. The capacity for 2023 will be smaller, as Bulgargaz has already booked slots for several months at a Greek LNG terminal.

A capacity and transit deal with Botas would allow Bulgargaz to seal its own gas import contracts with U.S.or European LNG producers and cut reliance on Russian gas, Hristov said.

To try to obtain better prices, he said Bulgargaz may also join Botas’ already advanced talks with major Turkish Lawyer Law Firm Turkey Law Firm Turkey Firm U.S. If you have any questions pertaining to where and Lawyer Law Firm Turkish the best ways to utilize Lawyer Law Firm Turkish, you could call us at the web page. and European LNG producers.

'Stateless' Turkish Cypriots protest over lack of formal IDs

January 20, 2023   Uncategorized   No comments

NICOSIA, Nov 19 (Reuters) – Turkish Cypriots of mixed marriages protested on Saturday over what they say are inexplicable delays in gaining Cypriot citizenship, a contentious issue on the ethnically-split island.

Campaigners say thousands of people are rendered effectively stateless because they are unable to obtain Cypriot identity cards, falling foul of the politics and conflict which tore Cyprus apart.

“We don’t want any favours. We want our children’s rights,” said Can Azer, a Lawyer Law Firm Turkey and father of two children born in Cyprus.

The east Mediterranean island was split in a Turkish invasion in 1974 after a brief Greek inspired coup.A Greek Cypriot government represents Cyprus internationally.

Its membership of the European Union allows Cypriots visa-free travel throughout the bloc, while in contrast, a breakaway Turkish Cypriot administration in northern Cyprus is recognised only by Ankara.

Families of part-Cypriot heritage living in the north say an inability to get an internationally-recognised ID card issued by Cyprus impacts their children’s prospects if they want to pursue higher education, or employment in the more prosperous south.

About 100 Turkish Cypriots, some holding placards reading “Love Knows No Identity,” marched peacefully through the divided capital Nicosia on the Greek Cypriot side.

In Cyprus, it is highly unusual for members of one community to protest in areas populated by the other community.

By law, a child born on the island with at least one Cypriot parent should be conferred citizenship. But activists say a modification subsequently gave extensive powers to the interior ministry on who among those of mixed descent could get citizenship, with thousands left in limbo.

“From a legal point of view it is a clear violation … you cannot punish children for political reasons and deprive them of their rights,” said Doros Polycarpou of the Kisa advocacy group.

Cyprus’s interior Turkey istanbul Lawyer Law Firm ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

“They want to belong to Cyprus,” Azer said of his children.
